A Glam Apartment- The Master Bedroom

Tuesday, April 14, 2015

I mentioned last week that I'm currently working on an incredible design project which entails adding some glamour to my best friend's beautiful city apartment. I can't even tell you what fun we've had mapping out the space and now that almost everything has been ordered I am counting the weeks until we can put it all together!

The first space we tackled was the living room, and now we are working on the master bedroom. Like  in the living room I wanted to add a bit of drama and visual impact to the space, but for the master I also wanted it to have a serene feel since this is where the couple spends most of their time once they get their four kids down for the night. The room itself is on the smaller size, but what it lacks in space it absolutely makes up for in character! There are huge bay windows which get a ton of light, a fireplace, incredible moulding, and hardwood floors. We are pretty much starting from scratch, which considering the "bones" of the room is a pretty amazing place to begin.

The room itself reminds me with something you would find in a Parisian apartment, so for the design scheme I wanted to incorporate some European elegance (mainly with the over sized tufted bed) and use some luxury lighting elements. Because the bed and fireplace will be the focal points, I want to keep the rest of the room neutral and calming with the light gray walls and an over-dyed rug in a non-assuming pattern. The ceiling height is on the lower side, so we went with a bed that would fill the wall, essentially making it an art piece in and of itself. I chose a navy Belgium linen for the fabric and I think it is going to be a jaw dropper when it arrives. The couple is going from a queen sized bed to a king, and with kids that sometimes magically appear at night you know that is going to be a game changer!  Instead of a dresser they are going to add in another set of built-ins which will essentially create a long hallway/ dressing area leading to the bedroom itself. My hope is that this room feels luxurious with all the various textures and at the same time is also comfortable. Below you can see some of my inspiration for the space, and the current mood board for my design.

Current Design Plan

I cannot wait to see this room when it finally comes together! This family is one of the hardest working that I know, and I can just picture them relaxing in that bed at the end of a long day with a glass of wine. I have a feeling that getting up in the morning is going to be a little bit trickier now!

P.S. If you have a room that is in need of a little design help, I am available for E-design as well as in-house design services if you are located in the Boston area. Please contact me for more information and pricing.
